India is globally recognised for its vibrant and youthful population. With a median age of just 28 years, the country holds a powerful demographic advantage. While many developed nations face a declining workforce, India’s youth have the potential to drive rapid economic growth and national development.
However, women’s participation in the workforce has remained consistently low for decades. Between 2017 and 2022, India required nearly 103 million skilled workers, yet more than 100 million youth aged 15–29 were not engaged in employment, education, or training (NEET). Alarmingly, nearly 88.5 million of them were women, highlighting a critical gender gap in workforce participation.
Although vocational training opportunities for women have increased marginally over the years, progress has been far slower compared to men. This imbalance underscores the urgent need for focused skill development, inclusive employment opportunities, and systemic support for women.
At Prabal India Foundation, we believe that true empowerment goes beyond literacy. Social norms, cultural barriers, unpaid care responsibilities, and gender stereotypes continue to prevent women from entering and sustaining formal employment. Addressing these challenges is essential to unlocking India’s full economic and social potential.
Support Women EmpowermentPrabal India Foundation works to strengthen women and youth participation in the workforce through education, skill development, and inclusive growth initiatives.
We are committed to creating pathways where women and youth can contribute meaningfully to the economy—because inclusive growth is the foundation of a strong and progressive nation.
